OVERVIEW

I am an industrial chemical engineer. When I was studying, the professors told us about all possible sectors where we could work, but not once was the tanning industry mentioned.  But thinking about it, if you consider that I was born in Manlleu, close to Vic, it was logical and natural that sooner or later I would end working in the tanning sector.

I have been working at Riba Guixà for 5 years, managing the drums department, in other words - adapting production to our specific resources – machines and human resources. There is a large component of responsibility with a balance between mental and physical work.  We have the technical and chemical aspect of the formulations, which implies endless tests until you get the results you are looking for or the results that your clients are looking.  Mental pressure is also present because any small error or mistake, or the failure of a drum implies that the product is rendered useless.  And the physical dimension because one has to be aware of all the technical aspects, and although we have an office from which we operate, a large part of the day is spent checking the drums and interacting with the rest of departments.

There are many aspects of my job that I enjoy, such as development of new articles, innovation, as well as the everyday responsibility of getting the production - an average of 5000 skins a day – carried out. It can be very stressful.

This department or area of the company is probably the place where team-working and team-spirit are really essential.  Although one needs to know how to delegate and command the team, this department is synonymous with team spirit.

There is a feeling of solidarity between all the members of the team.  We all carry out an important part in the development of an article, independently of our title.  Each one of us is responsible of executing correctly our functions and I believe that everyone here, in greater or smaller measure enjoys the feeling of professional achievements.

also allowed me to have a good career.

Everyone here, in greater or smaller measure, enjoys the feeling of professional achievements.
