General info

A friend called me and said that there was a vacancy at Riba Guixà, so I applied.  This was in 1999. Slowly I have worked my way up.  With the trust that my colleagues have placed in me, today I have a good job with a high degree of responsibility.  Although I finished my studies when I was quite young – I did one year at a polytechnic - this industry has offered me a chance that other sectors would have been incapable of giving me.

My main responsibility is to distribute the batches to the different machines, control and ensure that each machine has the right batches because usually each one of them represents the orders of a client.  I also have to ensure that the team have the correct load to work on, and lastly I am in charge of quality control, requires a lot of experience.

From a professional point of view, it is a very rewarding job. After all, we are a leading company and this is not possible without a great number of employees working as a team and truly dedicated to their responsibilities. Although it is not easy, as we are talking about time-consuming processes, coordination of batches to ensure that it reaches the operator and that he or she knows what has to be done.  I believe that I have an important role and it reflects on the company too.

Having to liaise with a large number of operators also implies that you not only have to be meticulous, but also understand how team work functions.  Therefore it is important to have good interpersonal skills and enjoy the responsibility factor, because without these two values, my job would be a fiasco.  Any mistake I do affects my colleagues, and vice versa.  Like everyone, I can have a bad day, and a bad day would be a machine breaking down, for example.

The leather industry has offered me a great opportunity to learn a profession and I like what I do.  If you are patient, responsible, have interpersonal skills, willingness and capacity to learn every day, the tanning industry is the place to be.
